Welcome to the ASME Qld Chapter Website!

The Australian Society for Music Education and each state chapter exists to:

  • support the right of every person to a musical education
  • promote quality music education
  • assist music educators to develop and extend their professional awareness of the whole spectrum of music education at the local, state, national and international levels
  • maintain and develop the status of music
  • provide a forum for the exchange of ideas
  • encourage Australian music and composers
  • develop teaching methods relevant to Australian students in all contexts.

On this website you will find information about all that ASME Qld offers its members and all of those involved in music education across our great state. We frequently hold Professional Development workshops and presentations which focus on the many and varied aspects of teaching music in Queensland. ASME2011 - “Making Sound Waves: Diversity, Unity, Equity”
2-5 July, 2011 Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre

XVIII Australian Society For Music Education Conference and Exhibition
Hosted by the Qld Chapter of ASME

ASME QLD invites all music educators across Australia, and beyond to attend the 18th ASME National Conference “Making Sound Waves: Diversity, Unity, Equity” at the Gold Coast Convention Centre on 2-5 July 2011.

With the stunning Gold Coast as a backdrop, we invite all ASME chapters to come to this musical meeting of minds, take a holiday, and share professional passions once more.

In the Australian curriculum environment, the 2011 conference will be pivotal in the establishment of 21st Century music curricula and research perspectives.

“Making Sound Waves: Diversity, Unity, Equity” is a theme with many layers. It not only reflects the land and seascape of the local environment, but a contemporary approach to musical experience and learning. In an era of technological revolution, the conference theme challenges our profession to ask how music education is to respond thoughtfully and responsibly, and ensure that all the diverse voices are heard. Never before have there been so many opportunities for young musicians- how can we ensure equal access to quality for all?

The organising committee is planning to offer participants the following conference strands:

Making Sound Waves:

  • in Primary Classrooms
  • in Secondary Classrooms
  • at Tertiary Level
  • in Research
  • in Music Studios
  • in Instrumental Ensembles
  • in Choirs
  • with Technology
  • with Community Music
  • in other Arts Forms
  • and Diversity, Unity, Equity in Curricula

By coming together, as a united group, we will explore the landscape of music education in Australia in 2011. ASME QLD looks forward to making sound waves with you.
