The ASME Qld Young Composers Competition is an annual competition designed specifically to highlight and showcase the talented young composers of Queensland. The event has a long and proud tradition and runs categories for Primary through to Secondary age students across different genres and styles.
The competition is adjudicated by professional composers and recent adjudicators have included Dr Stephen Cronin (Head of Composition, Qld Conservatorium), Dr Stephen Emmerson and Paul Bonetti. Substantial monetary prizes are associated with the competition including the Matthew Sorensen Prize.
In years where the ASME National Conference is held, the winner of the Secondary section is also sponsored to attend the Young Composers Project at the conference and collaborate with the other YCC winners from around Australia. In 2011, the YCP project was held on the Gold Coast as part of the 18th ASME National Conference, organised by ASME Qld.
